CLICK IMAGE TO ENLARGE Celluloid pinback button featuring American Beat poet Allen Ginsberg [1926 - 1997]. "Ginsberg for President" buttons were circulated during the 1964 presidential campaign. He was an early anti-war activist in San Francisco and Berkeley during the Viet Nam war era. He participated [mostly by chanting] in the anti-war protest rallies during the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago and testified on behalf of Jerry Rubin and Abbie Hoffman during the Chicago Seven trials.
This pin was issued by Universal Studios and sold in their stores. There were more than 25 different movie stars, television stars and world figures in this series of souvenir buttons which is now almost 40 years old.
